• Lethality Assessment Program (LAP): Domestic Violence incidents are one of the most frequent and most dangerous calls to which we respond. To better ensure the safety of deputies and improve service delivery to victims, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office was the first law enforcement agency in Florida to implement LAP (September 2009).LAP is a evidence-based questionnaire screening tool which can accurately access lethality for the victim. In the first year of implementation, over 400 LAP screens were conducted and fifty-nine percent scored in as “High Danger” (246 victims).
• Flagship designation: The Combined Communications Center (CCC) achieved this prestigious status for 2008, 2009 and 2010. This designation places the Center among a very elite group of public safety Communications Centers as being the best of the best of 911 Centers. In 2010, the CCC received recognition for the State Department of Health for our model training program in response to the new state law requiring Telecommunicator certification. Our agency was one of only nine sheriff’s offices out of 67 in the state who achieved this distinction.
• Department of Defense’s “Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Award” presented to Sheriff Darnell at a special ceremony In Orlando, Fl., on July 22, 2011 in recognition of agency-wide support of employees who are involved in military service.
• 2011 Law Enforcement Special Olympics “Cal Henderson Award” for being the top fundraising law enforcement agency in the State of Florida. The award will be presented to ACSO Lt. George Corwine and Deputy Bobby Stafford in Orlando, Fl., on July 30, 2011.
• 2010 Click it or Ticket campaign: ACSO recognized on July 22, 2011, in Orlando, Fl as one of the top three agencies in the state for like-sized agencies for our enforcement efforts for seatbelt violations in an effort to save lives.
